The owner of the single-storey traditional mediterranean villa wanted to make better use of the outdoor space at the rear of this property, whilst giving the home a makeover externally to add a more contemporary feel.

To form various outdoor areas we created subtle level changes and defined the paths between them with changes in material. The existing swimming pool was extended to incorporate a jacuzzi and lounging area, covered with a new pergola that extends the full length of the rear facade, providing solar shading to the living areas of the home.

By joining the two openings to the dining area, we were able to improve the connection between internal and external spaces, whilst allowing more natural light into the home.

A new sunken seating area around a firepit leads from the house to an existing outdoor kitchen and dining space. These relaxing and entertaining outdoor areas are enclosed within a perimeter wall, increased in height to provide extra privacy, allowing the owner to enjoy the mediterranean climate in a relaxed, private and contemporary environment.
